Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses - Perils

It's time for me to post more stuff on this blog thing. Blogspot gives me questionable results on whether or not people actually are looking at this (seems like whenever I post something it gets a billion views but then nothing, who knows what the shit is going on there) but I'm sure there is at least one person reading this. So hi random person from the internet, today I have a treat for you.

Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses is a band I've listened to ever since a guy from the old WoW off topic forums told me to. I've loved them ever since. As soon as I realized they were lost to my "great external hard drive falling off the table on D&D night" incident I sought after this album again. I was drunk when I realized I didn't have it anymore so instead of just looking for it on something I just bought it. If only I had a what.cd account then, ha!

This is a band with an extremely unique sound. An instrumental band with all kinds of interesting instruments, what isn't to love? It's dark, it's different, it sounds like nothing else! Do you ever hear a mother fucking GLOCKENSPIEL actually being used in anything? This band pulls it off nicely in a delightful package somewhere between prog and avant garde. They're other band, Guapo, didn't really do it for me but this album is easily one of my favorites ever. Even after like five years this shit still gets listened to regularly. However they aren't quite as popular as I'd like them to be and that is where this comes in. Yeah, despite everybody I know calling me a hipster who only loves obscure shit I'd actually love for most of the bands I adore to get popular. That way they make more music, plus I get to say I liked them BEFORE they were cool.

Perils is one of the finest albums ever made. Period. No cute similies, that is just how it is. I suggest you download this now.

Still undecided about center alignment. GG WP.

Face Candy - This is Where We Were / Waste Age Teen Land

To celebrate the addition of sweet, delicious text ads that I think look OK (I even looked at the source code to get the color code for the background so they match), I am going to post again. And not just one, but TWO, yes, TWO albums. I believe my silent audience will like them. I know you guys are out there, the page views do not lie. I've already hit 1/14th of my old blog's view numbers in just a few days. I'm impressed with myself.

But I cannot rest on my laurels. The only way to keep those numbers is to keep this shit up. And that's where these two albums come in. Face Candy is a side project of Eyedea, one of everybody's favorite underground rappers and some other guys who are also pretty cool, especially Kristoff Krane. Basically, it's a wonderful mixture of freestyle hip-hop with free jazz bass and drumming. It's one of those things where they combine two awesome things and it actually works to create something incredible.

Instrumental tracks, tinges of humor, sick bass and the quality of rap everybody has come to expect from Eyedea all come together so perfectly. It's like getting high fived by somebody who is really good at high fives except without the stinging pain associated with that. Seriously shit exposes me to more frission than a day at a nuclear power plant. Nevermind, that's fission, but I think you get the idea here.

The only thing that sucks about these albums is the fact that Eyedea is dead and can't make any more. Kristoff Krane could probably recruit somebody else to help out but it would likely not be the same. Enjoy!

Two Youtube samples for two albums:

Grayceon - Pearl and the End of Days

I'm always really enthusiastic about this blog thing when I start up one. Then it goes to once a week updates, then my blogbro and I always just give up. Well I have no blogbro to encourage myself to give up this team. I am the lone wolf now.

Anyways onward to the point. Today I bring you something that, aside from what.cd, I couldn't find anywhere on the internet. Maybe that is different now. I don't know. I didn't look because I already have it. But here it is regardless. Grayceon is a band I've loved for many years now and always look forward to anything they put out. All We Destroy was a quite strong 2011 AOTY for me and their previous two full lengths have bee regular listens for a long time (or at least they were until my external hard drive tragically fell to the floor during the middle of DnD night, but that's another story that nobody cares about).

Grayceon is one of those bands that sounds like a lot of things. You got sweet ass drumming, a mother fucking cello, frequent changes in tempo, and female vocals. Their cello player / vocalist, Jackie Perez Gratz, also features in Giant Squid (another band I adore to no end) and often they sound a little similar.

I'm trying my hardest to get through this entire thing without using a single similie. I have succeeded thus far. I would highly recommend giving this a listen if you enjoy prog metal / rock. Also it has sweet ass cover art (then again all Grayceon albums do.).

Streetlight Manifesto - The Hands That Thieve

I couldn't be content with just leaving Worm Ouroboros the only thing on my blog. Oh sure, they're pretty cool and stuff, but what if this blog contained something that people might actually want to download? Ah ha! I have just the thing you want.

Streetlight Manifesto's newest album, The Hands That Thieve, is everything I've been waiting for since basically forever. There is rarely an album I've waited for that actually lives up to the hype but ever since 99 Songs of the Revolution came out I've been wanting more. I've been listening to these guys since 2008 and well, they've been a favorite ever since. Third wave ska is a genre filled to the brim with garbage but these guys always manage to impress.

I don't even know where to begin. The wondrous horns, the glorious vocals and songwriting of Tomas Kalnoky, the ksjntinstnsijtnsjtnsjn oh god this band. This mother fucking band is so good I would rather cuddle with an unattractive woman over going without hearing them ever again. I love this album more than Melisandre loves R'hllor, more than a medivac loves a marine, more than you love cute fuzzy animals. I could go on forever about this.

It's punk, it's third wave ska, what is not to love? Well, normally that would be a lot of things but I can assure you this band offers nothing but quality. No matter how many times I listen to this shit I cannot get enough. Despite falling into typical "Some Guy says this is good" mode I'm not sure how else to describe how much I love this album. Oh, I got it. I'll tell you what it sounds like in case you aren't familiar with Streetlight Manifesto. (work on that by the way)

It sounds like being touched by the hand of some omnipotent being. Like experiencing love for the first time, oh there I go with the similes again. It sounds like a bunch of horns over punk. What do you want from me? Just look at the Youtube sample, realize I'm right and download the fuck out of this shit.

NOW.

As an added bonus, here's the acoustic version of this album. That's how much I love people who have to read what I say.
Toh Kay - The Hands That Thieve:

Worm Ouroboros - Worm Ouroboros

I don't remember ever making a blog but apparently I have one. Regardless, I shall make the most of this moment. The name is adequate, there aren't any ads because I do this not for money but rather for e-fame. And is there anything more glorious than being famous on the internet? I didn't think so.

And so here I am with a bit of content. Worm Ouroboros's self titled album has been one of my favorites lately. The delicious female vocals combined with elements of post rock and doom metal enthralled me from the first listen. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that Riverbed, track six of this album, is probably one of my favorite songs ever.

I always felt like the biggest problem with my old style of reviewing music came with a formula of "Artist - Album Name ---->Metaphor / simile ---->bad pun, this album is great / terrible, blah blah blah, filer, more puns, etc." Now I must try to differ from this if I am ever to become truly e-famous for reviewing music. But that's the problem, I don't know anything about music. Am I even qualified for this? People keep telling me I am. But here I am. I cringe at some of the things I said on my last blog, I hope I can repent to the gods of music.

But enough about me (then again, is it ever enough about me? Ah yes, there's that blatant narcissism that everybody loves from Some Guy. Or do they? Wait I said that was it about me. Ok ok, back to Worm Ouroboros. The sound of this band would best be described as "ethereal". Yeah, that's a good enough adjective. Female vocals over post rockishness into doom tinged metal passages will please the ears of a person attuned to either genre. Despite being metal technically I would certainly describe this more towards post rock. But does anybody really care about genres and shit? I remember when my music folder was organized by genre. I gave up on that shit after like a year. Fuck that.

Anyways, I would certainly recommend Worm Y Ouroboros's album of the same name. Why would I be writing about if I didn't like it? That is not a great way to get page views now is it? Anyways, if you came here for the download link it lies below. Enjoy, internet.

Here's a Youtube sample first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnivZdY4rt4

The song I actually wanted to link didn't seem to be on Youtube and I was not about getting it up there myself. I'm far too lazy. I already uploaded this shit to Mega (the cool new way to pirate shit now that mediafire became jerks and megaupload died).

Here's the whole album:

(If the download link doesn't work just yell at me somewhere, I've never uploaded anything to Mega before, I don't know if it works just like it seems to.

Ohai

Hello internet. I'm Some Guy, a person of literally zero importance. Sometimes I like to think I know stuff about anything but that is usually dispelled as soon as somebody tells me I am a wrong. Regardless, I do try. In fact most of the time I try really, really hard. To be honest one of goals is to become e-famous. I will eventually reach this goal and you will just have to deal with it.

Anyways, I enjoy writing. Mostly I write mediocre fiction set in a fantasy universe I made up myself. Other times I complain about how much things suck or tell you how great things are. Whatever the quality of the stuff I talk about I do aim to please. Both of the things I write will eventually end up on the internet in some form or another. I will ask for your feedback, I will post this shit on places across the internet. There will never be any ads (sorry I got greedy, be happy I did it now instead of later!) (jk Google won't let me put ads on here, you guys lucked out) (oh yeah there are adsense alternatives) (if there are ads here I'm sorry, I got greedy) on this blog. Just read what I have to say, maybe get a free piece of some pile of garbage I'm writing. Who knows, you could be surprised. Or outraged that this man calls himself a writer. Likely both. But mostly outraged.

And with that I welcome you to Music Among Other Things. Enjoy your stay.
